TYLER, Texas—Hank Gilbert (D-Tyler) Candidate for United States Congress in Texas’ Congressional District 1 Tuesday afternoon spoke out in support of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s actions to begin formal impeachment proceedings in the U.S. House of Representatives and urged his opponent, Congressman Louie Gohmert to work to hold the Trump Administration accountable to the American people and the constitution throughout the process from his position on the judiciary committee.
“It is time to hold the current administration accountable for its wanton disregard of the United States Constitution,” said Gilbert. “The Constitution was written to ensure checks and balances, and it was designed to keep a check on the executive’s power. It is imperative that the U.S. House take the steps Speaker Pelosi talked about today to protect both the Constitutional order on which this nation is based and national security,” Gilbert said.
Gilbert further called on Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler) not to obstruct, but to support, the inquiry through his position on the House Judiciary Committee.
“The American people need to know the truth about the actions of this administration,” said Gilbert. “It is Congressman Gohmert’s duty to the American people and the people of East Texas to work as our representative, and to play a role in this process, to uncover the truth.”
“Having a president who threatens a world leader by withholding funds vital to national security in exchange for material to damage a potential opponent is not East Texas values,” Gilbert said.
Gilbert said he fully supports Speaker Pelosi’s decision to launch a full impeachment inquiry, noting that recent revelations should pose major national security concerns for every American.
